Auxiliary CTO

We're looking for a hands-on, entrepreneurial Auxiliary CTO to support the technology strategy and development of a rapidly growing blockchain company. This role helps own the entire technology stack from blockchain and smart contracts to web/mobile applications, APIs, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data and AI.

INSTITUTIONAL-LEVEL SCOPE

Executive & Governance Responsibilities

Beyond the core stack, this role carries the governance, compliance, security and executive responsibilities expected of an institutional-grade CTO overseeing a regulated FinTech/blockchain platform.

Technology Governance & Compliance: Technology governance frameworks & decision rights, Regulatory & technology compliance for FinTech, blockchain and RWA, Source code governance & intellectual property (IP), Open-source policies, repositories & technical documentation standards, Segregation of duties & privileged access controls, Audit trails & full traceability of critical operations, Mandatory technology standards for all teams and vendors.

Enterprise Architecture & Digital Custody: Enterprise architecture & distributed systems design, Advanced digital custody: MPC, multisig, HSM & key management, Financial ledger architecture & double-entry accounting, Reconciliation across blockchain, banking, payments & accounting.

Security, Reliability & Incident Response: SRE, observability & SLA/SLO definition, Secure Software Development Lifecycle (Secure SDLC), Vulnerability management, penetration testing & threat modeling, Technology & cybersecurity incident management, High-availability, fault-tolerant, multi-region architecture, Disaster recovery strategy with defined RPO/RTO, Institutional-level business continuity.

FinOps & Vendor Management: Technology budget ownership & cost control (FinOps), Critical technology vendor management & evaluation, Technical due diligence for vendors, acquisitions, partners & new tech.

Engineering Organization & Leadership: Building & leading the entire engineering organization, Hiring & developing Engineering Managers, Tech Leads & Architects, Defining engineering & technology KPIs, Capacity planning for millions of users & high transaction volume, Succession planning & key-person risk mitigation.

Executive & Board-Level Leadership: Technology & product strategy alongside the CEO and executive team, Ownership of the short-, medium- and long-term technology roadmap, Regular reporting on risk, progress & strategy to CEO/Board, Participation in fundraising & technical due diligence with investors, Technical representation with banks, institutions, partners & enterprise clients.

Data & AI Strategy: End-to-end data strategy & data governance, AI, LLM and AI-agent strategy, Governance, security & privacy for AI systems.

Platform Ownership & Technical Debt: Technical debt management & continuous platform modernization, Full ownership of performance, availability, security, cost & scalability across the entire technology platform.

YOUR MISSION

Build a secure, scalable, institutional-grade blockchain platform capable of supporting rapid growth, millions of users and significant transaction volume. You will have significant ownership over the company's technology strategy, architecture, engineering organization and technical roadmap.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 10+ years software engineering experience
• 5+ years leading engineering/technology teams
• Proven experience architecting & scaling production systems
• Strong blockchain/Web3 experience
• Strong understanding of Solidity, EVM, smart contracts & wallets
• Full-stack development & cloud architecture experience
• Strong cybersecurity knowledge
• FinTech, payments, banking, crypto or tokenization experience preferred
• Entrepreneurial mindset & ability to move quickly
• Able to be both strategic and hands-on

TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE

• Solidity, TypeScript, Node.js, Python/Go
• React/Next.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS
• Docker, Kubernetes, REST/GraphQL, CI/CD

You don't need to be an expert in every technology but you must be able to architect, understand, review and lead across the entire stack.
