Plant And Machinery Mechanic

We are seeking a skilled Plant & Machinery Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment including cranes, excavators, and generators. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components of construction and marine machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults in cranes, excavators, generators, and other heavy plant equipment
• Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and belt adjustments
• Repair or replace defective components such as pumps, motors, cylinders, hoses, seals, bearings, and belts
• Overhaul diesel engines (Caterpillar, Cummins, Deutz, Perkins, etc.) and generator sets
• Inspect and service hydraulic systems including pumps, valves, cylinders, and hoses
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems including starters, alternators, sensors, and control panels
• Conduct crane inspections including wire ropes, hooks, brakes, and load charts
• Repair excavator undercarriage components including tracks, rollers, sprockets, and idlers
• Test and calibrate generators for voltage, frequency, and load performance
• Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and parts requisitions
• Respond to breakdowns on site and perform emergency repairs
• Ensure all repairs comply with safety standards and manufacturer specifications
• Maintain workshop tools and equipment in clean and working order
• Coordinate with supervisors for parts ordering and inventory management
• Assist in mobilizing and demobilizing equipment for project sites
• Diploma or trade certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Equipment, or Diesel Mechanics
• Minimum 5+ years of experience as a mechanic for heavy plant and machinery
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
• Experience with cranes (mobile, crawler, tower), excavators (tracked, wheeled), and generators (various sizes)
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools and mechanical testing equipment
• Knowledge of welding and fabrication is an advantage
• Valid driver's license (for mobile repairs)
• Safety certifications (OSHA, IOSH) preferred
