The Opportunity

We're looking for an analytical and detail-focused Materials Controller to join a successful manufacturing business in Chirk.

This is a key role within the Supply Chain team, responsible for ensuring materials are available to support customer demand and production schedules whilst maintaining optimum inventory levels and supplier performance.

Whilst purchasing experience is beneficial, the role is heavily focused on MRP-driven planning and inventory management . We're looking for someone who can confidently use ERP/MRP systems to drive purchasing decisions, maintain planning parameters and analyse system-generated recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and action MRP recommendations within the ERP system
  • Maintain planning parameters including lead times, reorder levels and inventory settings
  • Analyse demand forecasts, sales trends and stock requirements to determine purchasing needs
  • Ensure material availability to support production and customer demand
  • Manage inventory levels, balancing stock availability with working capital objectives
  • Raise and manage purchase orders with suppliers
  • Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules and service levels
  • Identify supply risks and proactively implement recovery plans
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Operations, Finance and Procurement teams
  • Support forecasting and S&OP activities to align demand and supply plans
  • Drive improvements in inventory performance, planning efficiency and supply chain processes
  • Support ERP system improvements and continuous improvement initiatives

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Experience in a Materials Controller, Materials Planner, Production Planner, Inventory Planner, Supply Chain Planner or similar role
  • Strong ERP/MRP system experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting MRP recommendations
  • Knowledge of maintaining planning parameters such as lead times, reorder points and stock settings
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent numerical and data analysis capabilities
  • Advanced Excel skills for reporting and analysis
  • Understanding of inventory management, stock control and supplier performance measurement
  • Strong communication and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Experience within manufacturing, engineering, industrial, timber or FMCG environments
  • Sage X3 experience
  • Understanding of S&OP and demand planning processes
  • CIPS qualification or equivalent
  • Supply Chain certification
