Structural Steel Quality Control Inspector

Steel Fabrication Quality Inspector Location: Richmond, VA Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Shift: 1st Shift Starting Pay: $31/hour, with higher pay available based on experience Position Summary Seeking an experienced Quality Inspector to support structural steel fabrication and ensure completed work meets applicable drawings, specifications, and quality standards. Experienced senior structural steel fitters/fabricators with strong quality experience may also be considered.

Responsibilities Inspect fabricated structural steel throughout the production process.

Identify and document nonconformances in accordance with AWS D1.1/D1.5 requirements.

Compare materials and finished components against shop drawings and specifications .

Perform in-process and final inspections, including dimensional layout and part placement .

Assist with AISC QC audits .

Work with production teams to identify, document, and resolve quality concerns.

Support quality improvement activities and process improvements.

Qualifications 3–5 years of experience in structural steel layout and fabrication.

Ability to read and interpret fabrication and construction drawings .

Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and quality standards.

D1.1 and/or D1.5 welding certification preferred.

Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality issues accurately.
