Accountabilities Build the legal function: Establish and lead the in-house legal function, developing scalable processes, workflows, templates, and practices that support a growing technology organization.

Commercial contracting: Own commercial agreements end to end across new business, renewals, expansions, partner and agency relationships, and technology and data partnerships.

Contracting infrastructure: Develop practical contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and workflows that enable business teams to move efficiently while reducing unnecessary legal friction.

Privacy-by-design: Partner closely with Product and Engineering from the earliest stages of development to embed privacy considerations into product and technology decisions rather than treating them as late-stage reviews.

Privacy and compliance: Advise leadership and cross-functional teams on data privacy, data protection, security, healthcare-related regulations, and other compliance requirements relevant to products and operations.

Strategic risk management: Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leaders, translating legal risks into practical options that allow the business to pursue opportunities safely and effectively.

Corporate legal matters: Support corporate governance, financing, equity, employment, intellectual property, and other legal matters as the organization evolves.

Outside counsel: Manage external legal advisors and legal spend strategically, ensuring outside resources are used effectively.

Cross-functional partnership: Collaborate closely with executive leadership and teams across Product, Engineering, Sales, and other functions to provide timely, commercially minded legal guidance.

Organizational scalability: Develop a proactive, business-first approach to legal operations and risk management that can scale alongside the company's growth.

Requirements

Legal credentials: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.

In-house experience: Demonstrated in-house legal experience within a technology or SaaS company, ideally in an earlier-stage, high-growth startup environment.

Commercial expertise: Strong experience negotiating, structuring, and managing commercial agreements throughout the customer and vendor lifecycle.

Privacy and technology law: Deep familiarity with privacy, data protection, technology transactions, and related regulatory considerations; healthcare regulatory experience is strongly preferred.

Business judgment: Ability to balance appropriate legal and regulatory risk management with commercial priorities, customer needs, speed, and business objectives.

Strategic partnership: Comfortable advising CEOs and senior executives and influencing decisions through clear, practical, and solutions-oriented legal guidance.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and make sound decisions in an ambiguous and rapidly evolving environment.

Leadership style: Pragmatic, highly accountable, direct, respectful, and focused on delivering meaningful business impact quickly.

Base salary: Estimated base salary of $260,000–$300,000 .
