Summary:

Exciting HR summer internship opportunity with Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Under the general supervision of the HR Generalist and assigned HR team mentor, and according to established Firm policies and procedures, the HR Intern will perform a variety of HR functional and administrative duties for the Firm. The HR Intern will work collaboratively with our entire HR team working across our HR functions on a rotational basis. This includes specific short and long-term projects related to your field of study and Firm priorities. HR activities will be assigned by the HR Generalist based on business needs and learning opportunities.

Internship Eligibility:

The BT RISE Internship Program is designed to introduce students in specified fields of study to the day-to-day operations of a law firm. Candidates’ skills, knowledge, aptitude, and education will be considered during the selection process.

To be eligible candidates must be:

  • Enrolled in a 2- or 4-year degree program.
  • Entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in the Fall of 2027.
  • Be available to participate for 10 consecutive weeks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the HR department to deliver meaningful work that contributes to departmental and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with HR team members on assigned projects, data entry and analysis, and process documentation.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings to develop an aptitude for field of study and business acumen.
  • Observe confidentiality in all HR, Client, and Firm matters.
  • Collaborate with other departments and summer interns, where applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned/needed.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited 2- or 4-year college program or recent graduate.
  • Pursuing a degree that aligns with a future career path in Human Resources.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professionalism in interacting with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide timely and accurate information in a professional manner.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including personal computer,

copiers, phones, and scanning equipment.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Working Conditions:

  • Onsite work required in our Indianapolis office.
  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
  • Specific work hours for this position will be assigned; generally, core business hours. The requirements may vary occasionally, depending on the needs of the Firm.
