SECOND MATE

The Second Mate is responsible for navigational watchkeeping and assists the Master and Chief Officer in ensuring the safe navigation, operation, and security of the vessel. The Second Mate is normally the vessel's navigation officer and is responsible for maintaining navigational equipment, charts, publications, and passage-planning information.
