The context

Abbeal is hiring three Web Frontend Engineers on permanent contracts, for a long-term engagement with a leading Japanese mobile payments company. You join the product engineering organisation and build the web features of a payment product used by consumers and merchants across Japan. Fast-paced environment, large user base, strong expectations on quality and performance. Three openings, permanent position at Abbeal, target start 16 August 2026 (the start date can move if hiring takes longer).

What you will do

Work with product managers, designers and the other engineering teams to implement features end to end

Build secure web frontends in TypeScript with Vue.js (preferred) or React, on a micro-frontend setup (single-spa)

Contribute through knowledge sharing, code reviews and feedback on engineering best practices

Triage, debug and fix product issues, with Sentry, Kibana, NewRelic and Google Analytics for observability

Ship through the existing chain: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Terraform on AWS

What we are looking for (must-have)

Currently based in Japan with valid work authorization — no relocation or visa sponsorship from overseas for this role

5+ years of industry experience building secure web frontend applications (JavaScript and/or transpiled languages)

1+ year of industry experience with Vue.js (preferred) or React

Sound software engineering practices and solid computer science fundamentals

Business-level English (required on this role)

Nice to have

Frontend performance monitoring and optimisation

iOS or Android development, native or React Native

Server-side RESTful API design

Web hosting infrastructure such as CDNs

Testing and design system tooling: Jest, Storybook, i18n, Figma

Practical details

Location: Tokyo, hybrid. On this role office attendance is expected in line with the team's organisational guidelines and objectives, so plan for regular on-site presence.

Hours: Super Flex, no core time. Reference day 9:00 to 17:45 with a 1-hour break (7h45 effective).

Contract: permanent position (full-time employee) at Abbeal, on a long-term project. Target start 16 August 2026.
