Working Student Civil Engineering, Battery Storage (BESS)
Your tasks
Your mission Every storage project needs a site that is allowed to host it. You support our project team on the way from the first look at the zoning plan to the building permit and take ownership of clearly defined work packages from day one.
- Layout plans. Draw scaled site and layout plans, including access, safety distances and the cable route to the grid connection.
- Building applications. Prepare application packages with our partner architect, coordinate expert reports and answer the authority's follow-up questions until the decision.
- Planning law check. Review development and land use plans and work out which permitting procedure a site needs.
- On site. Accompany the construction of our projects. You are not the site manager, but you are there when the foundations go in and the containers are lifted into place, and you see your permit turn into steel and concrete.
- Make us faster. Turn recurring steps into templates and AI-assisted workflows.
Projects you could own
- An AI-assisted site scanner that reads cadastre, zoning plan and aerial imagery and tells us within a day whether a battery can be permitted on a plot.
- A layout generator: drop in a plot and get a first scaled layout for a containerised storage system, with access, safety distances and the cable route.
- Our playbook for building authorities: the questions they ask on water protection, noise and fire safety, and the answers that got our projects approved.
Requirements
- You are at the top of your cohort. You study civil engineering, architecture or urban and spatial planning (Bachelor from the 4th semester or Master), with grades you would put on the first page of your CV.
- You have built something outside the curriculum. A startup or startup internship, a design competition, a student initiative, a research project. You can explain what you decided and what came out of it.
- You know your way around building law, or learn it fast. BauGB, a state building code and the building documents ordinance do not scare you, and you can read a development plan.
- You draw accurately. You work confidently in CAD (AutoCAD or similar). QGIS or other GIS experience is a plus.
- You get answers from authorities. You pick up the phone, ask the right question and document the answer so the whole team can use it.
- German at C1 or higher, good English. Building authorities, municipalities and our customers work in German.
What we offer
- you like solving the puzzle of a zoning plan and a site that does not quite fit,
- you want to see infrastructure actually get built, not stay on paper,
- you want to be in the office with the team most of your working days.
- Real work, no intern projects. What you prepare goes out under our name to grid operators, building authorities and customers.
- Direct line to the founders and our Head of Projects. You sit next to the people who decide, and your ideas get tested the same week.
- The tools to move fast. Claude and the AI tooling we build our workflows with. If something helps you work faster, we get it.
- Flexibility around your studies. Hours that move with your exam phases, office in Berlin-Mitte, Urban Sports Club, regular team events.
Other
You will not enjoy this if
- you would rather wait for instructions than pick up the phone and call a building authority yourself.
- you expect a predefined task list or a fully remote job.
Diversity and Inclusion We believe we can only build a strong company when different perspectives and backgrounds come together. That's why we welcome applications from everyone, regardless of nationality, ethnic origin, religion or belief, gender, sexual orientation, disability or any other personal characteristic. Our goal is a workplace where everyone feels safe, respected and empowered to do their best work. If you don't meet every requirement, apply anyway: your background might be exactly the perspective that makes our team even better.
