Retail Assistant

Location : Initially Chelmsford, with flexibility to work across other stores Contract : Temp to Perm We are looking for a reliable, friendly and practical person to join a small independent business. This role will initially be primarily based at the Chelmsford store. However, the company operates multiple stores and you may be required to work at any of the other store locations depending on business needs, staff cover, holidays, sickness or rota requirements. Your primary place of work may also change in the future. For this reason, applicants must be a driver or have reliable transport and be able to travel to other stores when required. The role includes serving customers, using digital till systems, helping customers choose suitable products, restocking freezers, keeping the shop clean and organised, managing click & collect orders, putting away pallets of frozen food efficiently, and generally helping the store run smoothly. The rota may vary from month to month depending on business needs. Weekend availability is essential, including Saturdays and at least two Sundays per month, with more Sunday hours available if wanted. The right person will be: Reliable and punctual Friendly and confident with customers A driver, or able to reliably travel between stores Comfortable with lone working and working independently once trained Able to open and close the shop when needed Practical, tidy and willing to help with stock/freezers Interested in dogs, pet nutrition or natural feeding Flexible with weekends and rota changes Physically fit and comfortable with light but frequent lifting, rarely above 10kg at a time Hours : Hours will usually be around 10 - 15 hours per week but this is not guaranteed, with additional hours available during busy periods, sickness cover and holiday cover. Weekend work: Saturday and Sunday availability is required, though where possible you may not have to work both days in the weekend.
