Accountabilities: The Global Classification Senior Specialist is responsible for managing product classification activities, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations, and maintaining accurate classification records. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with global stakeholders.

Research and assign accurate classifications for products, raw materials, intermediate products, packaging, finished goods, and equipment according to HTS, ECCN, and export control requirements.

Apply classification procedures, including relevant General Rules of Interpretation, General Notes, customs rulings, and supporting documentation.

Analyze bills of materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, technical specifications, and product data to determine accurate classifications.

Maintain and update classification databases, ERP systems, product lifecycle management systems, and global trade management platforms.

Register products within customs classification databases to support import and export compliance.

Conduct technical research using internal systems, product documentation, supplier information, and online resources.

Maintain electronic records related to classification, country of origin, and special trade programs.

Collaborate with global teams and respond to technical questions related to product classification and trade compliance.

Support continuous improvement initiatives within global classification processes.

Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers regarding classification and origin-related requirements.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate has strong experience in customs classification, export controls, and international trade compliance, combined with technical knowledge and the ability to work across global teams. A background in engineering and experience with complex product data environments are highly valued.

6 to 10 years of experience performing customs HTS and ECCN classification.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Communication Engineering.

Additional qualifications in international trade or customs classification processes are preferred.

Knowledge of international export control regulations, including ITAR and US export classification requirements.

Experience with global Harmonized Tariff Schedule requirements is an advantage.

Customs classification certification is preferred.

Strong analytical skills and proficiency with computer systems, databases, Excel, and data management tools.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and electronic bills of materials (EBOM).

Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, sourcing, sales, manufacturing, regulatory, and database teams.

Familiarity with global trade management systems such as E2Open or SAP modules is an advantage.

Previous experience in life sciences, biotechnology, or related industries is a plus.

Strong communication skills and the ability to manage complex information across international teams.
