Investment Analyst

About the role

Rocksolid Value is hiring its first Investment Analyst in Singapore. We invest our founder's own capital for the long term in a few outstanding businesses, mainly in China and Singapore. There are no outside investors and no short-term pressure. About 70% of the role is investment research and 30% company operations.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain 10-year financial models of our holdings and watchlist from annual reports in Chinese and English
• Write short notes on each quarterly and annual result, testing our original investment thesis
• Write one to two deep-dive company reports a month, and devil's advocate memos on our largest holdings
• Keep our investment journal and decision log
• Present one company's financials at a weekly review with the founder
• Work with our company secretary, accountant, banks and brokers, and keep records and deadlines in order

Requirements

• Degree in accountancy, finance or business; fresh graduates welcome, 1–3 years of experience a plus
• Solid accounting foundations and strong Excel skills
• Fluent in Mandarin, spoken and written, and able to read Chinese financial reports. Mandarin is the founder's daily working language and most of the companies we study report in Chinese. English is used for external work
• Genuine interest in long-term value investing
• Honest and self-driven: the founder divides his time between Singapore and Malaysia, so you will often work independently

What we offer

• Monthly salary S$4,000–6,500 based on experience, plus CPF; higher for exceptional candidates
• Annual bonus, and a long-term profit share: 20% of portfolio gains above a 6% hurdle in the first two years, then 15%, capped at 12 months of base salary each year
• CFA exam fee support and study time
• A path to long-term partnership with equity for the right person, terms agreed in writing
