School Bus Driver

Responsibilities Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles according to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Ensure the safety of all passengers by following emergency response procedures, vehicle codes, and student discipline policies. Assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including providing wheelchair assistance and managing behavior management protocols. Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment. Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected road conditions with proactive driving techniques such as defensive driving and quick response skills. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear language and multilingual skills when applicable. Maintain accurate logs of trips, incidents, and vehicle inspections while adhering to state and local commercial driving laws. Requirements Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus or transit vehicle operation. Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency stop procedures. First aid certification (including CPR) along with emergency response training for transportation scenarios. Experience working with children or in environments requiring behavior management skills is highly desirable. Ability to lift heavy objects safely when assisting with wheelchair or student needs; physical stamina for extended periods of driving and passenger interaction. Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse communities.
