Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of Citizenship to join a successful secondary school in Sheffield on a long-term basis from October half term .

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Citizenship teacher, or a suitably qualified teacher with a strong background in Humanities, to join a supportive school and make a positive impact on students' academic progress and wider development.

The Role

As a Teacher of Citizenship, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and challenging lessons across the secondary age and ability range. You will inspire students to develop their understanding of democracy, politics, society, rights and responsibilities, and the wider world.

You will work closely with colleagues within the department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning, while contributing to the wider life of the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured Citizenship lessons.
  • Teach Citizenship across Key Stages 3 and/or 4, depending on experience and timetable requirements.
  • Prepare and adapt resources to meet the needs of students with different abilities and learning needs.
  • Assess, monitor and track student progress, providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain high expectations of behaviour, achievement and participation.
  • Develop students' knowledge and understanding of current affairs, democracy, politics, society, rights and responsibilities.
  • Encourage students to think critically, engage in discussion and develop informed opinions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Humanities/Citizenship department.
  • Contribute to departmental planning, assessment and development.
  • Support the wider pastoral and extracurricular life of the school where appropriate.
  • Follow school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and behaviour policies.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching Citizenship within a UK secondary school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for Citizenship, politics and current affairs.
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons that challenge and support students of varying abilities.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • A commitment to raising attainment and supporting students to reach their full potential.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues and parents/carers.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Tradewind Recruitment.
