*Position Summary:*

In this role you will be responsible for inspecting and repairing railcars to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Railcar repairs may include welding, replacing, straightening, and fabricating and painting components.

*Duties:*

  • Examines railcar components for structural defects and obstructions.
  • Operate handheld scanner.
  • Turns hand wheel to test brakes and ascertain that they are in operating condition.
  • Inspects and tests air hoses for leakage.
  • Inspects wheel trucks for dragging equipment.
  • Prepares reports on findings.
  • Remove and replace couplers, airline gaskets, hoses, or other components.
  • Paint cars and components.
  • Inspect, repair, or replace steel sections.
  • Straighten or fabricate, then replace steel parts.
  • Operate acetylene torches for cutting and/or shaping metals parts and operate electrical and gas welding equipment.
  • Operate forklifts, Scissor Lifts, and other shop equipment.
  • Working at heights training
  • Working in confined space
  • Operate vehicles, pick-up trucks to transport workers.
  • Re-rail cars and locomotive by using re-railing equipment.
  • Tag cars in need of immediate repairs.
  • Put up Blue Flags at both ends of a track and lock the switches with private locks.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

*Responsibilities & Qualifications:*

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, college/university preferred.
  • Welding certificate is preferred.
  • Previous experience in rail car repairs an asset.
  • Ability to set priorities, establish and execute a plan of action.
  • Valid driver?s license with a clean driving abstract.
  • Good hearing and vision / Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude
  • Pass pre-employment medical / Criminal Background Check

*Working Conditions:*

  • Working in a high-risk environment, exposure to heavy moving equipment.
  • Work takes place outdoors so workers may be exposed to various weather conditions.
  • Work may involve bending and lifting up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work flexible hours for extended periods of time.
  • Physically able to complete all tasks as assigned including repetitive movements through the duration of a shift.
  • Overtime and weekend work availability required.
  • Must work using all required PPE.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $23.72-$26.12 per hour
