Role Overview

This position is responsible for supporting and administering the organisation's Microsoft 365 cloud environment and associated IT infrastructure. The role balances hands-on technical work with day-to-day user support, helping ensure systems stay secure, stable, and performing well — for staff working in the office, remotely, and on board vessels.

Core Duties

  • Design, build, and roll out Microsoft 365 solutions tailored to the organisation's operational needs, working largely independently
  • Manage the Microsoft 365 environment to keep services available, secure, and running smoothly
  • Set up and maintain Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Defender in line with company policy
  • Handle first- and second-tier helpdesk requests, including remote troubleshooting
  • Take part in an after-hours/weekend on-call rotation as needed
  • Track system performance, running regular reviews and tests to catch issues early
  • Plan hardware rollouts, replacements, and lifecycle upgrades
  • Carry out and confirm system updates, backups, and recovery processes
  • Work with colleagues across the business to enhance systems and the overall user experience
  • Manage IT setup and teardown for staff joining or leaving the organisation
  • Keep documentation current — configuration records, SOPs, process notes, and user guides
  • Deliver technical support in coordination with internal teams and outside vendors, both on land and aboard vessels
  • Be available to travel internationally on short notice for on-site support
  • Assist with IT purchasing — sourcing suppliers, comparing quotes, and tracking orders
  • Maintain up-to-date records of hardware and software assets
  • Complete routine IT operational checks on a daily, monthly, and annual basis

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years hands-on experience managing Microsoft 365 environments
  • 3+ years providing tiered (L1/L2) IT support within a mid-to-large organisation
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Defender
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • 2+ years of exposure to network and firewall support in a small-to-mid-sized business setting
  • Open to occasional after-hours standby duty and overseas travel when needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft 365 Administrator certification (or equivalent)
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator certification (or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting IT systems in maritime or offshore settings
