dental laboratory technician assistant

Education:

College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Dental laboratory technology/technician. or equivalent experience.

Work setting:

Independently owned business.

Tasks:

• Prepare plaster models and moulds.
• Cast gold or metal alloys for bridges and denture bases.
• Maintain and order supplies.
• Mould wax over dentures set-up.
• Finish metal framework of dentures.
• Prepare wax bite-blocks and impression trays.
• Pack plastic material in moulds to form full or partial dentures.
• Polish and buff dentures.
• Fabricate and place temporary crowns and restorations.
• Computer-aided design (CAD).
• Fabricate and repair crowns, bridges or implants.

Technical expertise (dental):

• Plastering.
• Packing.
• Waxing-up.
• Casting.
• Polishing.
• Assembly.

Area of specialization:

• Full dentures.
• Partial dentures.
• Crowns and bridges.
• Ceramic or porcelain application.
• Gold dies and goldwork.
• Chrome castings.
