CHIEF MARINE ENGINEER

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel’s engine room and machinery. Supervise and manage the engine department and engine-room personnel. Maintain and operate the main engine, auxiliary engines, boilers, pumps, and other machinery. Plan and oversee preventive maintenance and repairs. Monitor fuel, lubricating oil, freshwater, and other machinery requirements. Troubleshoot machinery and equipment breakdowns and take corrective action. Ensure compliance with company procedures, SMS, ISM Code, and safety regulations. Maintain proper records of maintenance, machinery performance, and engine-room operations. Prepare requisitions for spare parts, tools, and technical supplies. Conduct regular inspections of machinery and ensure all equipment is in safe working condition. Coordinate with the Master regarding vessel operations, repairs, and technical matters. Ensure proper response to emergencies, drills, and machinery failures onboard. Train and guide engine department personnel in safe working practices.
