Senior Accountant
Our client is a high-growth, VC-backed FMCG / consumer business headquartered in London, with an ambitious international growth strategy. The role offers excellent career progression and is 4 days in the office per week.
Having established a strong position in the market, the business is entering an exciting next phase of expansion across the UK, Europe and the US. The company is entrepreneurial, fast-moving and highly commercially focused, with significant investment from leading venture capital investors.
As the business continues to scale, they're looking for a technically strong and commercially minded qualified accountant to join the finance team and play a key role in strengthening financial reporting, controls and decision support.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Director, you will have broad exposure across financial reporting, technical accounting, FP&A and commercial finance.
This is a hands-on role suited to an ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified accountant who wants to move from practice into a high-growth consumer business and gain significant exposure to a VC-backed environment.
A key requirement is practical experience of US GAAP, alongside UK GAAP / IFRS knowledge.
You will work closely with the Finance Director, senior management team and external advisers, with exposure to investors and board-level reporting as the business scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and support the monthly financial close across UK and international entities.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Ensure accounting policies and financial reporting comply with US GAAP, UK GAAP and/or IFRS as appropriate.
- Support technical accounting assessments, including revenue recognition, inventory, leases, accruals and provisions.
- Assist with preparation of US GAAP reporting and consolidation.
- Support the annual audit and relationship with external auditors.
- Prepare financial analysis and variance commentary for senior management.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow planning.
- Assist with investor and board reporting.
- Analyse gross margin, COGS, inventory, working capital and product profitability.
- Work closely with Operations, Supply Chain and Commercial teams to understand financial performance.
- Support the finance team with systems, controls and process improvements as the business scales.
- Assist with US expansion and the accounting requirements associated with international growth.
- Support ad hoc financial modelling and commercial analysis for the CFO / Finance Director.
- Help develop scalable finance processes and controls appropriate for a rapidly growing VC-backed business.
Candidate Profile
Essential
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional qualification.
- Minimum 0-3 years post-qualified experience
- Demonstrable experience of US GAAP.
- Strong technical accounting foundation.
- Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements and management accounts.
- Strong Excel / financial modelling skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Able to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong ownership mentality and willingness to be hands-on.
Desirable
- Experience within FMCG, CPG, food & beverage, retail, e-commerce or another consumer-facing business.
- Experience in a VC- or PE-backed business.
- Big Four or Top 10 audit background.
- Experience with inventory, COGS, landed costs and stock accounting.
- Experience with multi-entity / multi-currency accounting.
- Exposure to US subsidiaries or US reporting.
- Experience with NetSuite, Xero, Sage Intacct or another modern cloud ERP.
- Experience supporting investor / board reporting.
- Exposure to ASC 606, ASC 842 or other relevant US GAAP technical areas.
