About Korrency

Korrency is a cross-border remittance company. Through our mobile app, African diaspora customers in Canada, the UK and Europe send money home to Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and other African countries quickly and safely. Korrency Exchange Inc. is registered with FINTRAC as a money services business and with the Bank of Canada as a payment service provider. Most of our team works remotely from Nigeria.

The role

You will own Korrency's books. Our money moves through several banks and payment partners in Canadian dollars, pounds, euros and naira, so the job is accurate recording, thorough reconciliation and a month-end close that you run from start to finish, on time, every month. You will be the main point of contact for our external accountants on the year-end close and tax, and you will help build the finance controls a growing payments company needs.

What you will do

  • Own the month-end close from start to finish: accruals, prepayments, journals and foreign exchange revaluation. Deliver monthly management accounts by an agreed date and explain the main movements.
  • Reconcile every bank, payment-partner and wallet balance to our platform ledger each month, investigate differences and clear them.
  • Keep day-to-day transactions in QuickBooks Online accurate across several currencies (CAD, GBP, EUR and NGN).
  • Manage accounts payable: vendor bills, contractor invoices and payment runs, with the right approvals.
  • Record fraud losses, chargebacks, customer refunds and partner fees correctly, with supporting evidence.
  • Lead the year-end close with our external accountants, and prepare the schedules and supporting documents for financial statements and tax filings.
  • Design and maintain finance controls, such as payment approvals, reconciliation sign-off and month-end checklists.
  • Keep finance records organised and ready for audit, and improve finance processes as the business grows.

What we are looking for

  • 4 to 6 years of accounting experience, ideally at a fintech, payments company, bank or multi-currency business.
  • A track record of owning the month-end close and preparing management accounts without close supervision.
  • Strong bank and balance-sheet reconciliation skills, with high transaction volumes.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and supporting an external audit or year-end review.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero or a similar accounting system.
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills (lookups, pivot tables, large data sets).
  • ICAN or ACCA qualified. Part-qualified candidates with strong experience will be considered.
  • B.Sc. or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related field, with NYSC completed or exempted.
  • Careful and organised, and willing to dig until the numbers tie.
  • Your own laptop, reliable internet and power backup for full-time remote work.

Nice to have

  • Experience keeping books for a Canadian, UK or other foreign company.
  • Knowledge of IFRS, and willingness to learn Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
  • Experience reconciling payment-processor, wallet or settlement data.
  • Experience setting up finance controls or processes at a growing company.
  • Basic SQL or experience pulling data from a platform database.

About the engagement

  • Independent contractor engagement, full-time hours, fully remote.
  • ₦400,000 to ₦600,000 per month, depending on experience, paid monthly in Naira. As a contractor, you invoice monthly and handle your own tax and pension.
  • Regular overlap with Canadian (Toronto) business hours.

Korrency welcomes applications from people of every background.
