PE Subject Lead

We are seeking an exceptional and experienced PE subject lead to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator and strong middle leader to shape and lead a high-quality physical education programme based on the UK National Curriculum.

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for the PE department, driving excellence in teaching and learning, curriculum development, assessment, and extracurricular sport. They will inspire both students and staff, promote a culture of wellbeing and sporting achievement, and play a key role in the school's continued growth and success.

Main responsibilities

Lead the strategic development and continuous improvement of the PE department.

Design, implement, and review a progressive PE curriculum aligned with the UK National Curriculum.

Ensure high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across all key stages.

Lead, coach, and develop PE staff through effective performance management and professional development.

Monitor student progress and departmental performance, using data to drive improvement.

Oversee extracurricular sports programmes, school teams, tournaments, and sporting events.

Promote a culture of participation, wellbeing, inclusion, and sporting excellence.

Manage departmental resources, facilities, equipment, and budget effectively.

Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies.

Contribute actively to whole-school improvement initiatives and the wider life of the school.

Qualifications & experience

Holds a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE and/or QTS or equivalent).

Has a degree in physical education, sports science, or a related field.

Has successful experience teaching within the UK National Curriculum in the UK.

Demonstrates strong curriculum leadership and departmental management skills.

Has experience leading staff, improving teaching practice, and raising student outcomes.

Is passionate about sport, physical wellbeing, and holistic student development.

Is committed to contributing to the wider life of the school through fixtures, competitions, and extracurricular activities.
