TSS - Agency Relations
Accountabilities: Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key influencers and decision-makers within federal, state, and local tax agencies.
Act as the primary liaison and advocate with tax agencies, communicating effectively during agency calls and managing escalations involving judgments, penalties, and other compliance matters.
Negotiate with agencies when appropriate to facilitate timely and favorable resolutions to payroll tax issues.
Ensure payroll tax compliance processes align with applicable agency requirements, standards, and regulatory expectations.
Support compliance changes by collaborating with agencies and internal stakeholders to define appropriate approaches, identify required system or process adjustments, and coordinate validation and acceptance.
Gather, review, and organize documentation needed to clearly identify and investigate tax agency issues.
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to develop timely, practical solutions that minimize customer disruption and potential financial impact.
Maintain a strong understanding of internal systems, processes, procedures, and guidelines to ensure agency requirements are properly addressed.
Monitor emerging agency requirements and contribute to maintaining effective compliance practices across outsourced payroll tax operations.
Manage multiple priorities and escalations while maintaining clear communication, accurate documentation, and timely follow-through.
Requirements:
High school diploma required; an Associate's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Ideally, 5+ years of relevant experience in tax, finance, audit, payroll, or a related field, preferably within an outsourced payroll or tax agency environment.
Strong knowledge of the legal and regulatory landscape governing federal, state, and local income taxes and unemployment taxes is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with external agencies and internal stakeholders.
Strong influence, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to advocate for practical solutions while maintaining productive partnerships.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex regulatory or operational matters clearly.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a high-demand environment.
Solid data analysis and research capabilities, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while exercising sound judgment and maintaining a customer-focused approach.
Ability to quickly develop and apply knowledge of payroll tax systems, processes, procedures, and compliance requirements.
