Accountabilities The Federal Process Engineer will lead and support process engineering activities across federal industrial and infrastructure projects, ensuring designs meet performance, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Evaluate manufacturing, industrial, utility, chemical, and production processes to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.

Develop process engineering deliverables including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process narratives, and heat and material balances.

Perform engineering calculations such as mass and energy balances, hydraulic analyses, equipment sizing, and process evaluations.

Prepare technical specifications, equipment data sheets, procurement documentation, and engineering reports.

Support process safety activities including hazard analyses (PHA), HAZOP studies, safety reviews, and regulatory compliance assessments.

Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, civil, structural, architectural, and environmental engineering teams throughout project execution.

Assist with facility planning, process layouts, utility coordination, operational readiness, construction support, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities.

Participate in client meetings, technical presentations, project planning, proposal development, budgeting, and scope definition.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers while supporting multidisciplinary project teams.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings strong process engineering expertise, experience supporting complex industrial or federal projects, and the ability to deliver high-quality engineering solutions in collaborative environments.

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (with process engineering experience), Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

5–10 years of progressively responsible process engineering experience.

Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, chemical, energy, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, semiconductor, or advanced technology facilities.

Experience working with federal agencies or major defense contractors is highly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.

Experience with EPC, design-build, or federal engineering projects is preferred.

Knowledge of process automation, controls integration, construction support, commissioning, and startup activities.

Experience performing process safety analyses, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance reviews.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD or AutoCAD Plant 3D, Bluebeam Revu, Excel-based engineering calculations, and other engineering software.

Professional certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPSC), Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, Project Management Professional (PMP), or ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP) are highly valued.

Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Ability to conduct field investigations, travel approximately 10%, and work safely in industrial and construction environments while using appropriate personal protective equipment.
