R&D Mechanical Designer (m/f/d)

Your Challenge:

We are actively seeking a skilled and highly motivated R&D Mechanical Designer (m/f/d) to join our dynamic team. As an integral member of our R&D Team, you will be responsible for the concept, design and verification of new hardware in the area of photonics micro assembly & testing machines. We serve international clients across diverse sectors, and we combine cutting-edge engineering with hands-on implementation and global collaboration.

Design and engineer custom modules, components, assemblies, or complete systems for photonics micro assembly and testing.

Develop, improve, and optimize existing systems with respect to performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.

Perform mechanical systems sizing, material, tolerance, and manufacturing process selection.

Conduct creative brainstorming sessions and develop innovative design solutions for technical challenges that have not yet been solved

Use of mechanical and thermal simulations to analyze the behavior and optimize the design.

Produce 2D and 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, parts lists (BOMs), and full documentation.

Support machine installation, commissioning, and final acceptance testing.

Participate in project meetings with internal teams and international clients; communicate design progress and design decisions.

Work closely with cross-functional teams: operational design , systems engineering, automation, electrical, production, and logistics.

Your Profile:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field

At least two years of relevant professional experience in mechanical engineering; experience in special-purpose machine construction is preferred

Strong skills in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks or OnShape) and a good understanding of manufacturing methods, materials and tolerances

Experience with mechanical / thermal simulations and familiarity with PDM / PLM systems

Hands-on mentality and strong problem-solving skills

Independent, detail-oriented and goal-driven working style

Strong communication skills in English (B2+) and German, with the ability to work effectively in international project settings
