business general manager
*Help build a community where the next address is home.*
Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation (DRNPHC) is preparing to open an innovative micro modular transitional housing cabin community in east Durham Region. This 24/7, low-barrier community will provide approximately 50 people experiencing homelessness with a safe place to live, coordinated supports, and a focused pathway toward permanent housing. We are looking for an exceptional General Manager to lead it from the ground up.
*This is more than an operations role. *It is an opportunity to shape a new model of transitional housing, build a strong multidisciplinary team, bring community partners together, and create the conditions for residents to move from homelessness to stability and home.
*The Opportunity*
Initially reporting directly to the CEO, the General Manager will be the senior on-site leader accountable for the safe, effective and outcomes-focused operation of the community. You will connect people, programs, facilities, partnerships and performance into one coordinated system - while helping DRNPHC document and strengthen a pilot intended to inform future communities.
*What You Will Lead*
- 24/7 site operations, staffing, scheduling, after-hours escalation and a safe, respectful community environment.
- A large multidisciplinary team, including case management, peer support, maintenance, security, relief staff, volunteers, contractors and partner resources.
- The resident journey from referral and intake through stabilization, individualized case planning, housing readiness and transition to permanent housing.
- Integrated wrap-around partnerships across health, mental health and addictions, income, employment, justice, housing and community services.
- Site safety, emergency response, facilities, the Common House, cabins, grounds, maintenance and contractor performance.
- The operating budget, procurement, contracts, data quality, performance measures, funder/government reporting and continuous improvement.
- Constructive relationships with residents, neighbours, community organizations, emergency services, government partners and funders.
*What You Bring*
- Post-secondary education in social services, public/business administration, community development, housing, health services, social work or a related field; equivalent senior experience may be considered.
- 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in housing, homelessness services, supportive/transitional housing, social services, community health, shelter operations, property/community operations or a related field, including significant management experience.
- Proven leadership of a sizeable multidisciplinary team in a complex, high-accountability environment; 24/7 operational experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong judgment under pressure, with experience in crisis response, de-escalation, risk management and maintaining clear professional boundaries.
- Experience with case-management/service-delivery systems, community partnerships, budgets, contracts, procurement and operational planning.
- Knowledge of Housing First, low-barrier, harm-reduction, trauma-informed and person-centred approaches, and the ability to translate those principles into safe daily operations.
- A valid Ontario driver?s licence, reliable vehicle and satisfactory Police Security Clearance/Vulnerable Sector Check.
*The Leader We Are Looking For*
You are calm, visible and accountable. You can lead with both compassion and clarity, build trust without losing boundaries, make difficult decisions when required, and keep a complex operation moving forward. You understand that success is not simply a well-run site - it is residents making measurable progress toward stable, permanent housing.
*If you want your leadership to have a direct and lasting impact on people, community and the future of housing in Durham Region, we want to hear from you.*
