Cloud & Platform Architect (m/f/d)

Introduction

Dubois is a family-owned insurance broker specialising in commercial and specialist risks. Founded in London in 1982, the group has offices in Amstelveen, Düsseldorf, Hamm, Lisbon, Madrid and Melbourne. Our business covers specialist insurance broking, an international broker network and consulting. We are building a technology team in Germany to develop the digital platform used across the group. The team will be small and will work directly with the Group CIO, who will also be involved in the development work. The platform will support our clients and colleagues across all six offices. It will provide the systems needed for internal processes and client-facing applications, with integrations across the technology used by the group. The people joining the team will have direct input into the platform and the decisions that shape it. Tasks

Define the architecture of the new cloud platform, including identity, tenancy, subscriptions, environments and networking. Decide where managed services are the right choice and where building something ourselves makes sense. Stay hands-on. You will help implement the architecture you design and work closely with the engineers building the platform. Establish the infrastructure and delivery standards needed to make environments reproducible and deployments reliable. Design the platform so that newly acquired businesses can access group systems securely without connecting their existing networks directly to the Dubois environment. Work with colleagues responsible for technology across our offices as existing systems move towards a more consistent cloud-based approach. Set architecture and platform standards that can be applied across the group. Keep the platform appropriate for the size and needs of the business. We want someone who can identify where controls are necessary and where additional complexity adds little value.

Profile

Hands-on experience with a major public cloud platform, preferably Microsoft Azure. Experience with cloud identity, networking and platform services, including an understanding of how design choices affect cost. Practical experience with infrastructure as code and automated cloud provisioning. Experience designing a new platform or redesigning an existing one. A strong understanding of identity and access management in cloud environments. Experience making architecture decisions that take account of security, maintainability and operating cost. The ability to work with requirements that are still developing. Fluent English. German is useful but not required. Based in Germany and able to work on a hybrid basis. We expect the team to spend roughly half of the working week together in the office, depending on location and the work being undertaken.
