registered early childhood educator (RECE)
Position Summary
The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for children at CEY Childcare Kains. The RECE supports each child?s individual development through Montessori-inspired practices, purposeful observation, hands-on learning experiences, and respectful interactions.
The RECE works collaboratively with educators, families, placement students, and centre leadership to provide high-quality care while maintaining professional standards and following all centre policies and applicable childcare requirements.
Key Responsibilities
*Montessori Learning Environment*
- Prepare and maintain an organized, welcoming, calm, and developmentally appropriate Montessori-inspired classroom.
- Encourage children to develop independence, concentration, confidence, responsibility, and respect for others.
- Provide opportunities for children to learn through hands-on exploration and purposeful activities.
- Introduce and model appropriate use of classroom materials.
- Rotate and prepare activities based on children's interests, developmental needs, observations, and classroom themes.
- Encourage children to participate in caring for their classroom environment, including tidying materials and returning activities to their appropriate places.
- Support learning experiences in Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Culture, Science, Geography, Art, Music and Movement, and outdoor learning.
- Respect each child's individual pace of development and provide appropriate guidance when needed.
*Child Development & Programming*
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences based on observations of the children.
- Observe children's interests, strengths, emerging skills, and developmental needs.
- Complete required observations and documentation.
- Adapt activities and the classroom environment to meet individual needs and abilities.
- Provide opportunities that support children's physical, cognitive, language, social, emotional, and creative development.
- Encourage curiosity, problem-solving, independence, and positive peer interactions.
*Supervision & Safety*
- Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
- Conduct regular head counts and ensure attendance records are accurate.
- Follow appropriate procedures during classroom transitions, outdoor play, meals, rest periods, and washroom/diapering routines.
- Maintain awareness of children's allergies, food restrictions, medical conditions, and individual plans.
- Follow emergency procedures and participate in required fire drills and safety practices.
- Immediately report accidents, incidents, injuries, hazards, or concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and safe classroom and promptly address potential hazards.
- Follow all required sanitation, infection prevention, and health and safety procedures.
*Daily Care & Routines*
- Assist children with toileting, diapering, dressing, handwashing, meals, rest, and other daily routines as required.
- Ensure diapering and toileting procedures are completed hygienically and respectfully.
- Support children's growing independence during self-care routines.
- Follow individual dietary requirements, allergies, and food restrictions.
- Maintain children's dignity and privacy during personal care routines.
- Monitor children for signs of illness, injury, discomfort, or changes in behaviour and communicate concerns appropriately.
*Positive Guidance*
- Use respectful and developmentally appropriate positive guidance strategies.
- Model calm, respectful, and appropriate communication.
- Help children identify and express their feelings appropriately.
- Support children in developing conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Encourage kindness, cooperation, respect, independence, and responsibility.
- Never use prohibited practices or inappropriate forms of discipline.
