Chartering Broker Regional Trade and Project Cargo Intra-Europe (f/m/x)

Briese Chartering is an established shipowner and carrier based in Leer, Germany, managing a modern and versatile fleet of short-sea and multipurpose (MPP) vessels ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 DWT, with a strong focus on the carriage of project cargo.

We are seeking an experienced Chartering Broker (f/m/x) to join our Intra-European Regional Trade Desk. In this role, you will be commercially responsible for maximizing the utilization and profitability of our owned and controlled tonnage.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Optimization and Chartering Fix our 3,000-10,000 DWT fleet on Voyage Charters and Contracts of Affreightment (COAs) across European trade routes, including the Baltic, North Sea, Continent, Mediterranean/Black Sea, and North/West Africa. Optimize vessel routing and scheduling to minimize ballast days and maximize time charter equivalent (TCE) earnings. Negotiate charter parties directly with cargo owners and brokers, safeguarding the company's commercial interests. Project Cargo and Voyage Estimation Evaluate and price specialized project cargo inquiries in line with our vessels’ capabilities. Prepare accurate voyage estimates , including bunker consumption calculations, port and terminal costs, and laytime analysis, to ensure optimum profitability. Market Integration and Collaboration Leverage a strong network within the Northern and Central European shipping markets while maintaining active relationships with international chartering contacts . Work closely with our in-house operations and technical management teams in Leer to ensure smooth post-fixture execution.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Criteria Minimum three years’ commercial experience on the owner’s side or with an exclusive broker, specifically within the European short-sea or small MPP sectors. Solid understanding of vessel capabilities within the 3,000-10,000 DWT range , including stowage configurations, deck strength requirements, and regional port and canal restrictions. In-depth knowledge of European trade routes , including seasonal weather patterns, ice clauses, and short-sea port operations. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German is strongly preferred given our regional hub and the need for close integration with the team. Core Skills Proficiency in voyage estimation and industry-standard software tools, including MS Office, SEDNA, Netpas, and similar applications. Established network of direct project cargo clients, industrial shippers, and European freight forwarders.
