The second in charge in the engine room department and in the absence or incapacitation of the C/E, shall assume the responsibilities of the C/E. Responsible for maintenance & operational conditions of propulsion, steering gear system and air conditioning system; anchor windlass and mooring winches, and all fluid and air systems (Hydraulic, ballast, bilge, sewage, compressed air. Responsible for the maintenance and operational conditions of all auxiliary machineries in the engine room and all safety and fire fighting machineries/equipment.

Specific Duties: Keeping an engine room watch at sea and in port if so required. Monitors on a daily basis, all engine room equipment, and report deficiencies or malfunctions to the C/E. Ensures the safe and efficient operation of the engine dept. in accordance with Management policies and the directives of the C/E. Supervises , to the C/E satisfaction and requirements, the maintenance and repairs of all machineries associated with the engine dept., and all shipboard and shore personnel engaged in such work. Ensures that all machineries are operated safely and efficiency in accordance with instruction manuals, established practices and the C/E's directives, and also for ensuring that any defects, deterioration, or operating deficiencies are brought to the attention of the C/E. Liaising with the Chief Mate in the deployment of the work force, rendering assistance and technical advise on all matters outside normal engine dept. spares, control and the disbursement of consumable stores, and in all other issues where the department responsibilities overlap. Advising the C/E of the use and replacement of all spare parts, and requirements for stores and materials. Supervising the performance of duties of other officers and ratings engaged in engine dept work. Maintaining Main Engine and its accessories. Summarizes engine working hours and overtime. Checks, at regular intervals, engine stores and prepare requisition for approval by the C/E. Checks the correct functioning of all automatic control, electrical and monitoring system. Assist in bunkering operations. Assists in vessel safety familiarization of new crew, as designated by the C/E. Ensures that engine personnel are following safety procedures in all aspects of work. Conducts fuel tank sounding onboard during bunkering. Monitors cooling and boiler water treatment.

Qualifications/Requirements: Holds MDM2 License With Valid DCOC, MARINA License ID
