Education:
Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry.
Work setting:
Commercial dental laboratory. Independently owned business.
Tasks:
- Design dental devices.
- Modify dental devices including full or partial dentures, orthodontic appliances, inlays, onlays, clasps and bands.
- Prepare plaster models and moulds.
- Train other dental technicians.
- Perform administrative functions for the dental laboratory.
- Mould wax over dentures set-up.
- Finish metal framework of dentures.
- Supervise students in training.
- Prepare wax bite-blocks and impression trays.
- Pack plastic material in moulds to form full or partial dentures.
- Polish and buff dentures.
