Senior Generator Operator

Responsibilities:

Operate and monitor diesel and gas generators according to operating procedures and manufacturer recommendations. Lead and supervise Junior Generator Operators during routine and emergency operations. Perform and oversee generator start-up, synchronization, loading, unloading, changeover, and shutdown. Monitor key parameters including RPM, voltage, frequency, current/load, temperature, oil pressure, battery voltage, fuel level, and other relevant readings. Ensure generators operate within recommended limits and maintain proper load distribution. Conduct routine inspections of generators, control panels, fuel/gas systems, cooling systems, batteries, exhaust systems, and associated equipment. Identify alarms, abnormal readings, unusual noise/vibration, overheating, leaks, and other equipment problems. Carry out first-level troubleshooting and coordinate with electrical/mechanical maintenance teams when intervention is required. Monitor fuel and gas consumption and report abnormal consumption, leaks, or supply problems. Maintain accurate operating logs covering running hours, load, consumption, alarms, faults, and shutdowns. Guide and support Junior Operators and ensure routine checks, housekeeping, and operational records are completed. Support generator servicing, preventive maintenance, planned shutdowns, emergency power operations, and power restoration. Ensure compliance with PTW, LOTO, electrical/mechanical safety, fire safety, and safe diesel/gas handling requirements. Report equipment defects, operational risks, and safety hazards promptly. Perform other duties related to plant power generation and utility operations as assigned.

Requirements: OND, HND, or relevant technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years' practical experience operating diesel and gas generators, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or process plant environment. Proven experience operating industrial-scale diesel and gas generator systems. Strong knowledge of generator operation, synchronization, load sharing/load management, changeover, and power generation systems. Good understanding of generator control panels, protection systems, alarms, and operating parameters. Ability to interpret generator readings and identify abnormal operating conditions. Good understanding of electrical parameters including voltage, current, frequency, power, power factor, and electrical load. Good knowledge of diesel engine systems, including fuel, lubrication, cooling, starting, charging, and exhaust systems. Basic to intermediate troubleshooting skills for electrical, mechanical, and engine-related generator faults. Ability to coordinate effectively with electrical, mechanical, and maintenance teams. Demonstrated ability to supervise and guide junior generator operators. Strong record-keeping, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Strong commitment to safe working practices and compliance with plant operating procedures. Must be willing to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays where required. Must be willing to relocate to Ibeju-Lekki.

Remuneration: NGN 243,000 monthly
