Summary: Under the general supervision of the Software Services Director and an assigned mentor, the Data Intern will perform a variety of functional and administrative duties in accordance with established firm policies and procedures. The intern will collaborate with department team members on specific short- and long-term projects related to their field of study and firm priorities. Activities will be assigned based on business needs and learning opportunities for the intern.

Internship Eligibility: The BT RISE Internship Program is designed to introduce students in specified fields of study to the day-to-day operations of a law firm. Candidate’s skill, knowledge, aptitude, and education will be considered during the selection process. To be eligible candidates must:

  • Entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in the Fall of 2027.
  • Be enrolled in a 2-4 year undergraduate degree program at the time of the internship
  • Be available to participate for 10 consecutive weeks
  • Be pursuing a degree in data analytics, data science, computer science, information systems, business analytics, technology, or another related field

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the assigned department in delivering work that advances business initiatives.
  • Assist with data preparation, organization, validation, and quality control activities.
  • Support data analysis and reporting activities including identifying patterns, trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with the development, documentation, and maintenance of data processes, workflows, and procedures.
  • Support activities related to the development and implementation of the firm's data lake including data integration, data management, data quality, metadata, and data governance.
  • Collaborate with team members and business stakeholders to understand project needs and contribute to assigned projects.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings to gain an understanding of the firm's business operations, technology, and the role of data in supporting business decisions.
  • Collaborate with other departments and summer interns, where applicable
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of firm and client information and comply with applicable firm policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in data analytics, data science, computer science, information systems, technology, or another related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in data, technology, analytics, business intelligence, or process improvement.
  • Basic understanding of data concepts including data collection, organization, quality, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, systems, processes, and concepts quickly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate in person, by email, phone, and virtually.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to approach unfamiliar challenges.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify patterns, trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate and timely work.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and follow established firm policies and procedures.

The following are helpful but are not required:

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and other data analysis or reporting tools.
  • Coursework or experience involving statistics, data analysis, databases, or data visualization
  • Exposure to tools or technologies used for data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence

Working Conditions

  • Onsite work required.
  • Work is performed in a professional office environment.
  • Specific work hours for this position will be assigned; generally, core business hours. The requirements may occasionally vary depending on the needs of the firm.
