Treaty Underwriter (H/F)

We are seeking a highly experienced and analytical Senior Treaty Underwriter to join our underwriting team. In this role, you will take a leading responsibility for underwriting, pricing, and managing a P&C treaty reinsurance portfolio across international markets. You will contribute to portfolio steering, underwriting governance, and continuous improvement of underwriting processes, while acting as a technical reference point within the team.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience in property and/or casualty reinsurance, sound judgement in catastrophe‑exposed business, and the ability to balance technical excellence with commercial acumen and stakeholder management.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Senior Underwriting & Risk Assessment: Analyse and underwrite complex P&C treaty reinsurance risks in line with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and strategic objectives, and act as a technical reference for complex or escalated cases.
  • Pricing & Structuring: Lead the pricing of treaties using actuarial models, catastrophe models, and underwriting judgement, while critically assessing model outputs, assumptions, and limitations.
  • Portfolio Management: Proactively manage and steer assigned portfolios to optimise profitability, diversification, and capital efficiency, monitoring accumulations, exposures, and performance indicators.
  • Market & Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, cedants, and market partners, representing the company in market meetings, negotiations, and selected industry events.
  • Negotiation & Contracting: Take a leading role in negotiating terms and conditions for new and renewal treaty business, ensuring clarity, robustness, and alignment with company objectives.
  • Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure adherence to internal underwriting governance and external regulatory requirements, including Solvency II, and support audits, reviews, and regulatory‑related underwriting input.

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Provide qualitative and quantitative insights on portfolio performance, risk exposure, and market developments through regular and ad‑hoc reporting.
  • Collaboration, Mentoring & Process Improvement: Work closely with actuaries, claims, risk management, and technical accounting, mentor junior underwriters, and actively contribute to workshops and initiatives aimed at improving underwriting processes, tools, and guidelines.

Your Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in P&C treaty reinsurance underwriting.
  • Proven experience in underwriting European and/or Asian reinsurance markets.
  • Strong working knowledge of catastrophe modelling tools (e.g. RMS, AIR) and their practical application.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex data, risk reports, and model outputs.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship‑management skills.
  • Solid understanding of Solvency II and underwriting governance frameworks.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.
  • Professional qualifications such as CPCU, ARe, or equivalent are a plus.
