Education:

Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. or equivalent experience.

Work site environment:

Noisy. Dusty. Hot.

Work setting:

Shop fabrication. Sheet metal fabrication shop. Metal products manufacturing company.

Tasks:

  • Measure and mark sheet metal according to template.
  • Operate metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, shape or straighten sheet metal.
  • Grind and buff seams, joints and rough surfaces.
  • Inspect products to ensure quality and conformity to specification.
  • Cut materials using power tools or by hand.
  • Assemble, erect and install hoisting and rigging equipment.
  • Fit and join sheet metal parts.
  • Sort metal sheets and parts, scrap metal and other materials.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications.
  • Operate metal cleaning equipment to remove excess welds, rust, scale and other materials from surfaces of metal products.
  • Clean machines and immediate work areas.
  • Grind or chip excess metal from metal products using hand tools.
  • Read and interpret work orders.

Welding techniques:

Gas metal ARC (GMAW) (MIG).

Equipment and machinery experience:

  • Lifting device.
  • Hand tools.
  • Dolly.

Specialization or experience:

Custom sheet metal items. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

Transportation/travel information:

Own transportation. Public transportation is available.

Work conditions and physical capabilities:

Fast-paced environment. Physically demanding. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Tight deadlines. Repetitive tasks. Large workload.
