Research Fellow I
Key Responsibilities Research leadership: define and carry out research on AI-enabled robotics, digital representations of the built environment, and human–robot interaction. Development: design and implement software frameworks, data pipelines, simulation environments and AI models that support robot operation and decision making. Integration and validation: work with the engineering team to integrate methods onto robot platforms, and run experiments and trials in laboratory and real-world settings. Research output: lead publications, technical reports, milestone deliverables and demonstrations, and contribute to grant proposals. Mentoring and collaboration: guide research assistants and students, and work with industry and agency partners. Requirements PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Architecture / Built Environment, Robotics or a related discipline. Candidates close to completing their PhD may be considered. A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant areas. Programming experience in one or more languages such as Python, C++ or C#, and familiarity with AI / machine learning methods. Ability to work independently, manage research tasks, and communicate well in written and spoken English. Experience with robotics frameworks (e.g. ROS / ROS 2), simulation or game engines (e.g. Gazebo, Isaac Sim, Unity), or XR technologies. Experience with BIM, digital twins, or spatial and semantic data for robotics applications. Experience with LLMs or other generative AI in applied systems. Experience in funded research projects, industry collaboration, or supervising junior researchers.
