RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertake primary research in Singapore-based archives and libraries, including the National Library and NUS library on the subject of agricultural science in Singapore, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands - with a specific focus on the rubber industry in the British colonial era.
  • Undertake online catalogue searches for online material and materials in situ relating to the project that may be available overseas.
  • Be able to collate, catalogue and synthesise information gathered for the project PI.
  • To be able to produce 6 monthly project reports for the project funder and contribute to the writing of mid-term and final reports.
  • To write or co-author with the project PI an academic paper for a local heritage/history journal.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Undergraduate Degree, ideally in history or an aligned humanities subject.
  • Postgraduate qualification preferred (such as a Masters), ideally in history or an aligned humanities subject.
  • Self-starter and independent worker.
  • Detailed, meticulous and able to work to deadlines.
  • Prior experience in archival and/or historical research.
  • Knowledge of Singaporean/Southeast Asian colonial history.
  • High level proficiency in a second language would be an advantage, especially Chinese and/or Malay.
