About the role

We are looking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher to deliver high-quality teaching in geography across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

The successful candidate will have experience of teaching examination courses, including:

Pearson Edexcel GCSE Geography

Cambridge (CAIE) AS and A Level Geography

The role sits within a strong Humanities Faculty and offers the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of geography within the school.

Key responsibilities

Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and effective lessons in geography

Teach across KS3, KS4 and KS5, including public examination classes

Prepare students for examinations, including fieldwork, data analysis and exam technique

Design and implement assessments, including feedback to support progress

Ensure all students are appropriately challenged and make strong progress

Contribute to schemes of work and curriculum development

Assess, record and report on student progress accurately

Maintain strong subject knowledge, including current global and environmental issues

Use technology effectively to support teaching and learning

Communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues

Contribute to enrichment opportunities such as field trips and geography-related activities

Provide cover for absent colleagues and support exam invigilation when required

The ideal candidate will have

A degree in geography or a related field, with a recognised teaching qualification

Experience teaching KS4 and/or KS5 examination classes

Strong understanding of fieldwork requirements and assessment

The ability to explain complex geographical concepts clearly and effectively

Excellent classroom management and high expectations of students

A passion for geography and the ability to inspire curiosity about the world

Confidence in using technology to enhance teaching and organisation

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

A commitment to ongoing professional development

Flexibility, adaptability and a positive approach within a busy school environment

Wider responsibilities

All teachers are expected to contribute fully to the life of the school, including:

Teaching, preparation and effective marking

Pastoral responsibilities, including acting as a tutor where required

Participation in enrichment and co-curricular activities

Attendance at school events and meetings

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the Humanities Faculty, contributing to a cohesive and high-performing team alongside colleagues in subjects such as History and Travel & Tourism.
