Our client seeks to recruit for a Mechanic & Workshop Officer. Job Summary: The Mechanic & Workshop Officer is responsible for providing safe, high-quality bicycle inspection, assembly, diagnosis, repair and preventive maintenance while maintaining workshop controls, quality standards and accurate technical records. Key Accountabilities Inspection & Diagnosis

Inspect bicycles and identify mechanical, structural and component faults.

Diagnose root causes rather than treating symptoms.

Conduct pre-service and post-service inspections.

Identify safety-critical defects and prevent unsafe bicycles from being released.

Prepare clear technical findings and repair recommendations.

Bicycle Assembly & Setup

Assemble new bicycles according to manufacturer specifications.

Set up brakes, gears, wheels, drivetrain, handlebars, saddle and components correctly.

Use appropriate torque specifications and conduct final safety checks.

Repairs & Servicing

Perform routine servicing and preventive maintenance.

Repair and adjust braking systems, gears, drivetrain, wheels, tyres, bearings and related components.

Carry out puncture repairs and tube/tyre replacement.

Replace worn or damaged components using approved parts.

Workshop Quality Control

Complete repairs to agreed technical standards.

Conduct final functional and safety checks before release.

Record work completed, parts replaced and recommendations.

Minimize repeat repairs caused by poor workmanship.

Tools & Workshop Control

Maintain tools, stands, pumps, torque wrenches and other equipment.

Keep the workshop clean, organized and safe.

Report damaged, missing or unsafe tools.

Spare Parts Control

Record parts and consumables used on each job.

Request required parts before stock-outs affect turnaround.

Identify defective or incorrect parts and report them.

Coordinate with the Sales & Inventory Officer on workshop stock.

Customer Technical Support

Explain faults and recommended repairs clearly to customers.

Provide honest, technically justified repair recommendations.

Support warranty assessments and technical investigations.

Safety

Follow workshop health and safety procedures.

Use appropriate PPE and safe working practices.

Report accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions immediately.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Repair/service turnaround time.

First-time repair success rate.

Repeat repair/return rate.

Number of bicycles serviced within agreed timelines.

Customer satisfaction.

Accuracy of spare-parts records.

Workshop tool accountability.

Compliance with safety and quality procedures.

Key Requirements

Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering may be considered where supported by strong hands-on bicycle-mechanics experience.

2–4 years' practical bicycle repair, servicing or workshop experience preferred.

Certificate/Diploma in Bicycle Mechanics, Bicycle Repair, Cycle Technology or closely related technical discipline.

Experience with multi-speed bicycles, modern drivetrains and hydraulic/mechanical brakes is preferred.

E-bike experience is an advantage where applicable.

Strong bicycle fault diagnosis.

Brake and gear adjustment.

Wheel truing/spoke adjustment.

Drivetrain and chain maintenance.

Bearing, hub and bottom-bracket servicing.

Bicycle assembly and safety inspection.

Preventive maintenance.

Technical documentation and job cards.

Workshop safety and tool management.
