We are seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school environment in Plymouth. If you are looking to turn your empathy and patience into a rewarding career supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, this is your chance to shine. What you will be doing In this role, you will play a pivotal part in the educational and personal journey of pupils in Key Stage 3 and 4 who face barriers to learning. You will help transform lives by: Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs. Utilising de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed approaches to create a safe, structured, and calm learning environment. Acting as a positive role model, building trusting relationships that empower students to navigate emotional challenges. Collaborating with classroom teachers to adapt lessons that align with individual EHCP goals. Monitoring progress and well-being, sharing key insights with the SENCO to ensure every student is supported effectively. Who you are You are a calm, professional, and emotionally literate individual who thrives in a school setting. You possess a strong desire to see every student reach their full potential, regardless of the challenges they face. You hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service. You have proven experience working with young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or complex needs. You communicate with clarity, patience, and effective boundary-setting skills. You have a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant degree/training (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA) is highly desirable. You are based in or easily accessible to Plymouth and available for a full-time, long-term commitment. What we offer A rewarding long-term contract in a warm, inclusive, and collaborative secondary school. Full-time hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (term-time only).
