Key responsibilities
- Individual tax compliance for expatriates: Prepare and review Singapore individual income tax returns (Form B / B1) for expatriate and globally mobile employees.
- Determine tax residency status and apply the correct basis of taxation, reliefs and exemptions.
- Review employment income and benefits-in-kind, including housing, allowances, equity awards and home-leave benefits.
- Review employer filings such as Form IR8A, Appendix 8A/8B and Auto-Inclusion Scheme (AIS) submissions.
Tax clearance
- Prepare and review tax clearance filings (Form IR21) for employees ceasing employment or leaving Singapore.
- Track filing deadlines and coordinate with clients' HR and payroll teams on withholding and release of monies.
Global mobility and cross-border employment tax.
- Advise on cross-border employment tax matters for inbound and outbound assignees, business travellers and remote workers.
- Apply Double Tax Agreements to resolve residency, sourcing and double-taxation issues.
- Support tax equalisation and hypothetical tax calculations, shadow payroll and assignment cost projections.
IRAS correspondence:
- Handle IRAS queries, review Notices of Assessment and manage correspondence on behalf of clients.
- Prepare objections and supporting documentation where assessments need to be revised.
Client and team:
- Act as a day-to-day contact for clients' HR and mobility teams, explaining tax positions clearly.
- Review the work of junior team members and support their training (at Assistant Manager level)
- Keep up to date with changes in Singapore tax legislation and IRAS practice.
Experience and qualifications
Required:
- At least 4–5 years of hands-on experience in Singapore individual income tax compliance.
- Proven experience preparing and reviewing returns and tax clearance (IR21) filings for expatriate employees.
- Working knowledge of the Singapore Income Tax Act, IRAS practice and the myTax Portal.
- Experience handling IRAS queries, assessments and correspondence independently.
- Degree in Accountancy, Finance, Taxation or a related field.
Preferred
- Global mobility experience with multinational clients, including tax equalisation and shadow payroll.
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CA (Singapore), CPA, or the SCTP Accredited Tax Practitioner / Advisor (Income Tax) credential.
- Exposure to Double Tax Agreements and multi-country assignee populations.
- Strong written English and the confidence to explain tax positions to HR and finance stakeholders.
