Transport Operations - Freight

Our client is looking to appoint a Transport Operations Assistant to join their busy operations team and play a key role in coordinating their day-to-day UK transport movements.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on role where you’ll manage movements from initial instruction through to final delivery, working closely with drivers, customers, hauliers, suppliers and internal teams.

The role would suit someone with previous experience in transport, logistics, operations or co-ordination , who enjoys problem-solving, working to deadlines and taking ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily UK collections and deliveries from instruction through to completion.
• Plan movements in line with customer requirements, schedules and available capacity.
• Liaise with drivers, hauliers, customers, suppliers and internal teams.
• Monitor movements and proactively manage potential delays or operational issues.
• Arrange alternative transport solutions where required.
• Provide customers with timely updates and respond to operational queries.
• Maintain accurate transport records, delivery documentation and proof of delivery.
• Support invoicing, reconciliation and general operational administration.
• Ensure movements comply with company procedures, health & safety requirements and relevant legislation.
• Support the wider Operations team and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service levels.

About You

The successful candidate will be organised, proactive and solutions-focused , with the ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

You’ll ideally have:

• Previous experience in transport, logistics, operations or a similar co-ordination role.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work effectively to tight deadlines.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and operational systems.
• Experience communicating with drivers, customers and suppliers.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A full UK driving licence .

Desirable: Knowledge of UK domestic transport operations, transport legislation, hauliers/drivers and experience using transport management or logistics systems.
