Senior transport operations / Supervisor
We are looking for an experienced Transport Operations Supervisor to join our team and take a senior role in the day-to-day management of our UK domestic transport operations.
You will be responsible for planning and coordinating collections and deliveries, managing drivers and external hauliers, supporting customers and resolving operational issues. You will also provide guidance to the wider Operations team and support the Transport Manager when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and monitor daily UK domestic collections and deliveries.
- Allocate company vehicles, drivers and external hauliers effectively.
- Monitor movements and proactively manage delays, breakdowns and changing requirements.
- Act as a senior operational contact for customers, suppliers, drivers and hauliers.
- Resolve operational issues quickly and professionally, escalating where necessary.
- Monitor transport providers, service levels, costs and performance.
- Ensure accurate movement records, delivery documentation and operational information.
- Support transport invoicing, cost control and reconciliation.
- Ensure operations comply with company procedures, UK legislation, health & safety and transport requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, vehicle utilisation, service and costs.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to the Operations team.
- Assist the Transport Manager with compliance, planning, performance and operational cover.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across the transport operation.
About You
Essential
- Previous experience in a senior transport, logistics, operations or coordination role.
- Strong knowledge of UK domestic transport operations.
- Excellent organisational, planning and administrative skills.
- Ability to manage multiple movements, priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication, customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Confident decision-maker who takes ownership of operational issues.
- Commercially aware with an understanding of transport costs.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and operational systems.
- Able to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to support and guide colleagues.
Desirable
- Experience in UK haulage or domestic transport operations.
- Experience managing drivers and external hauliers.
- Experience managing transport rates and costs.
- Knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance.
- Experience using transport management/logistics systems.
- Experience with KPIs, performance management or supervising an operations team.
