Hays Accountancy & Finance is delighted to be working with a well-established and growing independent accountancy practice in Teesside, seeking a Semi-Senior Accountant to join their supportive and collaborative team.

Your new role

As a Semi-Senior Accountant, you will take ownership of a portfolio of clients, building strong relationships whilst delivering a broad range of accountancy and advisory services.

You'll work alongside experienced professionals in a business that truly values flexibility, professional development and work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation and review of statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
  • Preparation of management accounts and financial reports.
  • Completion of VAT returns and corporation tax computations.
  • Preparation of self-assessment and partnership tax returns.
  • Supporting bookkeeping activities and reviewing financial records.
  • Ensuring Companies House and HMRC filing deadlines are met.
  • Managing and developing relationships with a portfolio of clients.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for client queries and providing proactive support.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team.
  • Working closely with senior management to deliver exceptional client service.

What you'll need to succeed About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:

  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice environment.
  • ACA, ACCA or AAT qualification, part-qualification, or be qualified by experience.
  • Experience preparing year-end accounts and tax returns.
  • Strong knowledge of VAT and corporation tax compliance.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
  • The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise effectively.
  • Experience using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar cloud-based systems.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
