Location: Stratford, East London Salary: £80,000 Contract: Permanent Working Hours: 45 hours per week

Overview

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Project Manager on behalf of one of our clients, an established civil engineering and infrastructure contractor. The successful candidate will manage projects from design through to completion, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards. The role involves coordinating site teams, managing subcontractors, overseeing commercial performance and maintaining strong client relationships. Our client is particularly interested in hearing from ex-military personnel with relevant civil engineering, infrastructure, rail or project management experience, alongside the technical qualifications and certifications required for the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from design and planning through to delivery and final handover.
  • Develop and monitor project programmes, budgets, forecasts and cost reports.
  • Coordinate engineers, surveyors, site teams and subcontractors to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Manage subcontractor packages, procurement and specialist materials.
  • Oversee temporary works, risk assessments, method statements and project documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Manage NEC3/NEC4 contractual requirements, including early warnings and compensation events.
  • Chair site meetings, monitor progress and maintain accurate project records.
  • Coordinate design development and resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain client and supply chain relationships, identifying opportunities to improve project performance.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Project management experience within civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of construction programmes, cost control and risk management.
  • Experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts and subcontractor management.
  • Ability to use Primavera P6 or equivalent planning software.
  • Degree, HNC or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • CSCS Managers card, SMSTS and NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
  • Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Experience managing temporary works and coordinating site delivery.

Desirable

  • Experience in rail, water, utilities or heavy civil engineering projects.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor experience.
  • Lifting Appointed Person training.
  • Valid PTS and familiarity with Network Rail processes, including GRIP/PACE.
  • NRSWA experience and knowledge of Thames Water projects.
  • Previous CRE-C responsibilities or experience managing complex civil engineering works.
  • CEng MICE or knowledge of JCT contracts.
  • LUL BTA certification.
