Position Summary
The Security Camera Technician is responsible forinstalling, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing security camerasystems, access control networks, and related surveillance infrastructure. Thisrole ensures all surveillance equipment operates reliably to support propertysafety, asset protection, and operational security.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & System Deployment
- Install, mount, and configure IP and analog cameras (dome,PTZ, bullet, infrared).
- Lay, pull, route, and terminate cables (Cat5e/Cat6 ethernet,coaxial, low-voltage power).
- Set up Network Video Recorders (NVRs), Digital VideoRecorders (DVRs), switches, and power supplies.
- Program camera firmware, assign IP addresses, and configurevideo management software (VMS).
Maintenance & Repair
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on cameras, lenses,power supplies, and recording servers.
- Diagnose and resolve system malfunctions, video signallosses, network connectivity issues, and physical damage.
- Repair or replace defective components, wiring, powersources, and camera hardware.
- Optimize camera placement, lens focus, angle, and lightingconditions for optimal coverage.
Network & System Integration
- Integrate surveillance hardware with local area networks(LAN) and remote monitoring platforms.
- Configure remote viewing access on mobile applications,desktop platforms, and monitoring stations.
- Coordinate with IT personnel to resolve network bandwidth,firewall, and storage issues.
Compliance & Customer Support
- Conduct site surveys to assess equipment needs and recommendoptimal camera positioning.
- Train clients and end-users on basic system operation,playback retrieval, and export procedures.
- Maintain clear logs of work completed, service tickets,system configurations, and parts inventory.
- Adhere to local electrical codes, safety regulations, andprivacy standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent;associate degree or vocational certification in Electronics,Telecommunications, or IT preferred. 1–3+ years of hands-on experience inlow-voltage wiring, CCTV installation, or security systems.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with NVR/DVR setup and Video Management Software(e.g., Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Milestone, Avigilon).
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, subnetting,DHCP, DNS, PoE).
- Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools,multimeters, and wire testers.
Physical & Logistics Requirements:
- Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, or elevated lifts.
- Capability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and workin outdoor or challenging physical environments.
- Valid driver’s license (for field/mobile technicians).
