Control Engineer
Rotherham | Days Only, Mon - Fri | Salary up to £67,000 per annum DOE + Excellent Benefits
An established medium / heavy manufacturing business in Rotherham is looking to appoint an experienced Controls Engineer / PLC Engineer to join their engineering team.
This is a hands-on controls position for someone who is confident taking ownership of automation projects from concept through to commissioning. You'll be working extensively with Allen Bradley PLCs and Studio 5000 , developing new programmes from scratch, modifying existing systems and providing expert fault-finding support across the site.
The role is fully factory based, Monday to Friday on days , with a strong focus on project delivery, automation improvements and technical problem solving.
The Role
As a Senior Controls Engineer, you'll be responsible for delivering automation and controls projects across the manufacturing facility, as well as supporting and improving existing equipment.
You'll be involved in:
- Designing, developing and programming PLC control systems
- Writing PLC programmes from scratch using Allen Bradley / Studio 5000
- Modifying and improving existing PLC programmes and control systems
- Carrying out complex PLC and electrical fault finding
- Taking ownership of automation projects from initial design through to installation and commissioning
- Working on turnkey automation projects , ensuring systems are delivered to specification
- Commissioning new machinery and automated equipment
- Developing control solutions to improve reliability, efficiency and production performance
- Supporting existing production equipment and resolving technical issues
- Working closely with electrical, mechanical, production and maintenance teams
- Liaising with external suppliers, contractors and integrators where required
- Providing technical input on future automation and continuous improvement projects
We're looking for an experienced Controls Engineer who can operate independently and has a strong track record of delivering PLC and automation projects.
You'll ideally have:
- Proven experience working as a Controls Engineer, PLC Engineer, Automation Engineer or similar
- Strong Allen Bradley PLC experience
- Hands-on experience using Studio 5000
- Experience writing and developing PLC programmes from scratch
- Strong PLC fault-finding and diagnostic experience
- Experience modifying, developing and improving existing control systems
- A proven background delivering automation or controls projects
- Experience working on turnkey projects, ideally taking projects through design, programming, installation and commissioning
- Strong electrical and controls knowledge
- Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of projects from start to finish
- HNC/HND or equivalent engineering qualification would be advantageous
