CPP TRAINEE BROKER - TANKER
Job Summary
The CPP Trainee Tanker Broker supports the broking team in vessel chartering, market analysis, customer management, and commercial negotiations, undergoing structured training to become a professional tanker broker in CPP trades.
Responsibilities
Market Intelligence & Analysis
- Monitor CPP tanker market movements, freight rates, vessel positions, and cargo opportunities to inform broking decisions
- Collect and analyze market data from brokers, shipowners, charterers, and industry platforms to identify trends
- Prepare daily market reports, vessel position lists, and freight assessments to support team insights
- Assist in identifying market trends and business opportunities to enhance commercial strategies
Chartering & Broking Support
- Support senior brokers in matching cargo requirements with suitable vessels to facilitate chartering deals
- Participate in fixture negotiations between shipowners and charterers to secure favorable terms
- Execute voyage estimates and freight calculations to assess commercial viability
- Maintain and update vessel and cargo databases to ensure accurate information management
- Prepare fixture recap notes and chartering documentation to support transaction records
Client Relationship Management
- Assist in maintaining relationships with shipowners, cargo traders, oil majors, refiners, and charterers to foster client loyalty
- Attend client meetings, industry events, and networking activities to build professional connections
- Respond promptly to client inquiries and commercial requests to ensure high service standards
Commercial Operations Support
- Coordinate post-fixture activities with operations teams to ensure smooth voyage execution
- Monitor vessel movements and voyage performance to identify and resolve issues
- Assist in resolving operational or commercial issues during voyages to maintain service quality
- Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of fixtures to support compliance and transparency
Business Development
- Identify potential clients and market opportunities to support business growth
- Support brokers in developing new business and expanding market coverage to increase revenue
- Build professional networks within the tanker shipping industry to enhance market presence
Job Requirement
Required competencies and certifications
- Excellent written and spoken English to communicate effectively with international clients and stakeholders
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, Economics, Finance, or related disciplines
- Prior internship or experience in shipping, logistics, commodities trading, freight forwarding, or maritime industries is advantageous but not mandatory
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
