ABOUT 1X

Weʼre building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling

the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but itʼs not.

To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at

scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If youʼre

inspired by this, youʼll thrive here. Weʼve been at this since 2014 and weʼre at the

point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.

NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the

real world alongside real people. Weʼre not demoing it - weʼre shipping it. Weʼre

excited to meet you, if this excites you.

If youʼve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them

actually reach the world - this is that moment. Weʼre scaling, weʼre hiring with

intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely

change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Softgoods team is a group of makers, engineers, and designers united by a passion for creating products people love to touch, trust, and use. We bring together rigid and soft materials—textiles, elastomers, and foams—pairing traditional techniques with the exotic and unexpected, always with safety, a soft-touch experience, and a warm, welcoming feel at our core, carrying every product from first concept through prototyping to full mass production.

YOUR CHARTER

This is a hands-on, entry-level role built for aspiring engineers and manufacturing professionals with a real passion for sewing, textiles, and elastomers—and who want to learn the craft of softgoods from the people who do it best. Working alongside our engineers and designers, you'll cut, bond, sew, and assemble the prototypes, samples, and fixtures that carry our touch-facing components from idea to reality—building the fundamentals of fabrication, measurement, and assembly that every strong engineer relies on.

You'll start by executing to spec, then take on more as your skills sharpen, with mentorship and a clear path toward an engineering or manufacturing track.

This is a fully on-site role, as the best work in this field happens collaboratively, hands on materials, ideas advancing quickly.

KEY OUTCOMES

  • Support the team by building prototypes, samples, and fixtures to spec, learning to dial in quality, repeatability, and feel.
  • Execute cut-and-sew, bonding, lamination, and assembly tasks accurately and consistently, following established workflows.
  • Prepare materials, maintain shop tools and equipment, and keep the prototyping space organized, safe, and production-ready.
  • Document your work—measurements, process notes, and results—so iterations stay traceable and repeatable across the team.
  • Partner closely with engineers and designers, asking good questions and absorbing feedback quickly to grow toward independent ownership.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Hands-on aptitude — comfortable working with your hands and eager to learn fabrication across textiles, foams, and elastomers.
  • Care and precision — you take pride in clean, accurate work and notice when something is off by a millimeter.
  • Foundational technical sense — a basic understanding of measurement, tolerances, and how parts fit and assemble together.
  • CAD foundation — a solid grounding in CAD, comfortable reading and navigating 3D models and translating drawings into physical parts.
  • Strong organization — keeps materials, samples, and workspaces orderly, and tracks tasks and documentation so work stays repeatable and easy to hand off.
  • Coachability and communication — you listen well, follow direction, ask when you're unsure, and collaborate easily with people around you.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience: 0-3 (internships, vocational training, apprenticeships, or relevant personal projects count)
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; a technical certificate, associate degree, or trade training is a plus, or equivalent practical experience
  • Examples of hands-on work—school, personal, or professional projects—are encouraged, in lieu of a formal portfolio.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Cut-and-sew, sewing machine operation, or pattern work
  • Adhesives, bonding, and lamination
  • Safe use of hand and power tools and basic shop practices
  • Knowledge of general machine shop practices
  • Reading drawings or patterns, and using basic measurement or CAD tools
  • Familiarity with textiles, yarns, leathers, elastomers, or foams

WHAT DOES A SUCCESSFUL 1X TEAM MEMBER LOOK LIKE
