The Lead Credentialing Program Assistant serves as the C&P specialist providing oversight and input regarding compliance with VHA policies, directives, memos, notices, The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, recommendations by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and Government Accountability Office (GAO) and other internal or external auditors and reviewers as appropriate.

Major duties

Duties and responsibilities: Serves as lead specialist over a group of C&P Specialists. Responsible for assigning, monitoring, and reviewing the work performed by subordinate team members. Ensures that the organization's mission and vision are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's goals, work plans, and work products. Articulates and communicates to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and deadlines. Identifies, distributes, and balances workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, skill level and/or occupational specialization and adjusting to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks. Provides advice on work methods, practices, and procedures, and assists the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution. Responsible for ensuring quality assurance in the VAMC's C&P program. Participates in policy and decision-making initiatives with the C&P manager at the VAMC and continuously develops a greater understanding of regulatory and policy requirements, quality assurance methodologies as well as best practices. Utilizes evaluation results to make suggestions and improve organization/program performance. Validates processes to the C&P manager that are working efficiently and according to plan to identify dysfunctional process issues as early as possible during the implementation phase. Serves as a consultant and provides guidance to VAMC leadership and C&P Office Specialists on all matters pertaining to the facility's C&P program including credentialing, privileging, scope of practices, MOUs VA Memorandums; VHA requirements, Handbooks, Directives and Policies and TJC Standards.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 10/19/2026. You may qualify based on your specialized experience as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

  • Experience leading and mentoring a team, including assigning, monitoring, and reviewing work of specialized staff.
  • Providing training, coaching, and team-building to foster cohesive and high-performing teams.
  • Experience conducting internal audits, reviews, and quality assurance activities within C&P or similar healthcare administration settings.
  • Analyzing and interpreting program data, including report card data and audit results, and presenting findings using statistical, graphical, and narrative reports.
  • Managing database entries and reviewing documentation for accuracy, compliance, and process optimization.
  • Preparing and delivering analytical reports and recommendations in a clear, actionable format.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
