Business Services Manager Location: Wakefield Salary: £70,000 Independent Accountancy Practice Overview An established independent accountancy practice in Wakefield is seeking a Business Services Manager to take ownership of a substantial client portfolio and lead a key function within the firm. This is a leadership-facing role offering direct involvement in the development and direction of the business services team. It will suit an experienced Manager in a larger firm looking for broader responsibility and visibility, or a Senior Manager in a smaller practice seeking a more defined leadership position. The Role Manage a portfolio of non-audit clients with turnover up to £10m Oversee delivery of statutory accounts, management accounts, and advisory work Lead, structure, and develop a team of approximately 12 staff Take ownership of the payroll function, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency Act as the primary relationship lead for clients, providing commercially focused support Work closely with partners on resourcing, workflow management, and service delivery standards Contribute to operational and strategic decisions within the wider leadership team The Candidate ACA / ACCA qualified Strong general practice background within business services (non-audit) Experience managing a client portfolio and reviewing work to a high standard Proven team leadership experience, ideally managing multiple levels of staff Commercially aware with the confidence to engage SME clients directly Exposure to payroll oversight or management is advantageous Positioning £70,000 reflects a senior Manager / emerging leadership level within an independent firm Offers broader scope and influence than equivalent roles in larger practices Clear involvement in leadership decisions without the constraints of a highly layered structure Suited to individuals seeking autonomy, accountability, and progression into senior leadership
